Wish me luck...

I hope everyone is having a great start to the year! I'm not a huge fan of making resolutions, I believe you can do things everyday to become a better person or to help others, etc. However, I am going to list a few things here that I hope to help myself become a more peaceful, relaxed person. I have felt a little anxious over the past few weeks and it could from a number of things. I've been fighting some sort of "sickness" for about a month so I think it's worn me down a little and I may be a little weak and frustrated. Anyhow, I'm not looking for sympathy here because I have a great life and lots to be thankful for! I just want to list a couple of things I really hope to cut back on starting tomorrow to hopefully chill things out a bit and hopefully make myself healthier. I figure it's a good idea to document them here so I can put a little accountability on myself :-)

1. Drink less alcohol:
Don't get me wrong, I am not a obsessive drinker but I do like to have the odd drink here and there. I don't know if I will be able to quit drinking totally but hopefully I can cut it down to a few glasses of wine once in awhile. Maybe I should try just having a couple of drinks on the weekends?

2. No more Coffee (Caffeine):
That's right. I drink too much coffee and as of tomorrow (January 5th, 2010) I am not drinking anymore. I am either going to drink more tea or decaf. I don't think this one will be to difficult. I love my caffeine but I can survive with out it... I hope.

3. Learn to let go:
This one is a little less physical. But yesterday I bought a book called The Little Book of Letting Go by Hugh Prather and I hope it helps me to learn how to let go of things a little more so I'm not holding on to certain things. It's actually a 30 day program to "Cleanse your mind, lift your Spirit and Replenish your Soul". Sounds pretty good doesn't it?

So, to go along with my current Yoga and Meditation practices, I am really going to try my best to work on these 3 "little" tasks. I hope slowly over time it makes a great difference... so, wish me luck on the newest part of my Journey. If anyone wants to give these a try with me, fire off a comment and let me know if you are on board! Thanks, take care!

Thanks :-) I've been waking up half the time with one anyway so maybe it's a good time to stop!

I agree with @Ozzy you might get a few headaches, but the tea or decaf should help. Going to be fun to see :-)

Green tea was a staple for me when I tried a 21 day fast from coffee..plus it is a huge fat burner. Good luck with the improvements Adrian. You have a plan at least, and that's half the battle!

Thanks Reilly! I am drinking my first decaf today, so I'm off to the races. However, my bro did point out to me today that decaf actually does have a small amount of caffeine in it. Hopefully it's just enough to ween me off the real stuff ;) Take care.

Update for day 1 is pretty good! I like it... I had a decaf to ease into this. Just finishing up some decaffeinated tea now and feeling chilled. Good start to the challenge :) Thanks for all your comments and feedback!

Good luck I am sure you can do it! What is the difference between green and oolong tea? I have been liking the oolong and doesn't tea have twice as much caffeine than coffee?

I am not sure of the difference between those teas. There are lots of herbal and non caffeinated teas that are good.

Good luck with the plan Adrian. FYI on the decaf: I was told the process for decaffeinating tea/coffee can indeed made it less "healthy" then if you were to just drink the original. But, of course it's a good temporary solution to wean yourself off of the real deal.

Black Tea may be a better choice for weaning then decaf coffee. In that case, regular Chai (made from black tea) is highly recommended if you like spice otherwise just plain Red Rose will do :)

Some suggestions for good herbal teas: Ginger Tea made by Yogi Tea (if you like spice), Rooibos tea (red tea that comes from Africa), and Rooibos Chai (non-caff) is one of my favs.

@Jfavreau: It depends on many factors. What kind of tea or coffee beans are being compared, and how they were brewed. In general, Tea is much less, although Black Tea is usually the highest of the teas.

Cheers
